]]> IALP President, Brian B Shulman, recently traveled to the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland as an appointed member of Steering Committee of the World Rehabilitation Alliance (WRA) for a strategic leadership meeting which took place December 2-4.  The WRA is a WHO global network of stakeholders whose mission is to support the implementation of the Rehabilitation 2030 Initiative through advocacy activities.  It focuses on promoting rehabilitation as an essential health service that is integral to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and to the realization of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3:  Ensure health lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.  The meeting focused on a recap of the WRA’s successes for 2024 and strategic planning for the WRA’s advocacy plan for 2025.

]]> President-elect Prof Tamer Abou-Elsaad, Past Presidents Helen Grech and Lily Cheng, and Vice-President Education Fernanda Dreux attended the One Belt One Road Conference on Speech, Language and Hearing Disorders in Beijing, China, under the auspices of Beijing Language and Culture University and the Chinese Speech and Hearing Association. In his capacity as the future IALP President, Prof Abou-Elsaad was invited to give a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference, incorporating a review of the common goals and vision between the association and the conference. In addition, the President of the University, Prof Duan Peng, and Professor Lilly Cheng, as the honorary president of the conference and former IALP President addressed the audience.

“Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica is issuing a Call for Papers for its next special issue on the
“Melody and Rhythmicity in Vocal Patterns of Prelexical Infants”.
This special issue aims to bring together recent innovative research in the field of infant vocal
development and to understand their implications for a better understanding of the earliest
vocal roots of language. This knowledge is crucial for the early identification of infants whose
language development is at risk, as well as indispensable for therapists to design individually
optimized treatment for clinical practice. We welcome original research, reviews, and case
reports. If you have any questions pertaining to suitability for the Call for Papers, you can
contact Prof. Michael Robb, Editor-in-Chief of Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica by email
(michael.robb@canterbury.ac.nz). Please use ‘Infant Vocalization Special Issue’ in the subject
line.
The submission deadline is October 31, 2024. Publication of the special topic issue is planned
for Spring of 2025. Articles accepted for publication after successfully completing peer-review
will appear online first before the issue is compiled.
We look forward to featuring your research in Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica and
